Jyl's blog

My 10 year old daughter has decided she is going to start a blog of her own.  She has found something she feels quite passionate about and somehow wants to make a difference.
Yesterday while teaching History and the beginnings of our nation, we began talking about how the colonists felt and why some of them found it necessary to revolt and fight the British for their rights.  We talked of the importance of fighting for what you believed in and also how sometimes there are some people who take these beliefs and go to extremes, which isn't always the right thing to do.  I try to allow the kids to go off on tangents if they need to in order to understand things from many years ago.  As a result, we began talking about how sometimes governments impose things on us that are not really in our best interest but it happens anyways; for example the taxes imposed on the colonists. Somehow we began talking then about government health care and how Canada has it currently and how Obamacare is the same thing.

The kids have been passing emails around with some of their friends about a little boy in Canada who is on a respirator and the government wants to take him off it so he can die.  The parents however don't want that but since the government runs the health care,  the parents have a big fight on their hands.  Of course this conversation led to the fact that we have legalized abortion here and why.  Questions came in all shapes and sizes from all of them and I did my best to field all the questions.  Jyl had a total breakdown, couldn't understand how anyone could possibly want to kill their baby.  She was in tears.  We talked about it for a while and she decided that she was going to pray for guidance and when she was older she was going to somehow make a difference.  During the day she tried to write a story or two trying to get her thoughts on paper but never completed anything.  She talked to Rick later that day when he got home and he suggested she start a blog so she could write whenever she wanted and then she wouldn't have to write full stories but just put her thoughts on paper.

She hasn't started anything yet but as soon as she feels comfortable doing it, she is going to try her hand at blogging, just like mom and dad. (Hopefully she won't out do either of us.  Wouldn't that be something! )  So, stay tuned for Jyl's newest venture coming soon!
