This past weekend we decide to head up to Lake Placid for a few days to get away. Rick was teaching in Elizabethtown on Friday night and Saturday morning so the kids and I (minus Sammy..she had to work), took off Saturday morning and drove up to meet up with Rick.
We spent the three days we were there at the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort in the Rocky Peak room. It had two bedrooms with a shared bath and there was plenty of room. They say it's for 6 people but we would have had room for Sammy in there if she came with us. It really was a wonderful place to stay. We decided not to do too much while up there, both Rick and I needed a mental vacation instead of a physical one so we just hung around town and walked the streets and went to the pool most of the time. We did take one ride into the high peaks area at the Adirondack Loj. On the way we saw a farm which raised Buffalo! Yes you heard me, buffalo!! Now you have to understand, we have been going up to Lake Placid since we got married back in 1995. Never in all the time we have spent up there, either in town or climbing, we have never seen buffalo. As a matter of fact, when we did we turned to each other and said, "We gotta take a picture on the way out. No one is gonna believe this!" Well, a half hour or so later, we were prepared to take our photo and they were gone!! There was no sign of them! We're talking about 25 or more really big animals and they were gone. It was way too funny! It was not a figment of our imagination but we don't have any proof. Oh well, at least the kids saw them too.
Anyhow, back to Marybeth. She was just too cute this weekend, of course as always. She had her first experience in a pool while we were up there and I think she really enjoyed herself. Walking around in the kiddie pool(with help) and having dad carry her in the big pool while she kicked and splashed like crazy. She even got to ride on dad's shoulders and splash around. She tried a few times to taste the water but realized that wasn't as fun as it seems to be in the bath water. Didn't like the taste. Then back in the room, she decided that the best thing to do was to lay on the bed with mom and dad and flop on top of mom's head. Watching TV always worked best when flopped on top of mommy's head so she couldn't breathe. She would crawl up and then laugh real hard. When dad was around, she switched off between him and me and then needed to hug both of us, each with one arm. She is growing so big and getting such a personality it is so nice to see. Each day she surprises us with something new. Everyday is an adventure! She also liked to be on the look out for dogs while we walked the streets. She would point and call out, usually grunt really loud but her version of a shout. Every now and then she seemed to carry on a conversation with them as they passed. Then whenever she wanted dad's attention or her siblings attention she did the same thing to them. I don't think she figured they were dogs too, but I guess she figured if it worked for the dogs it should work on dad. Hahaha
Next trip? Probably not again until the summer when we will take our long awaited vacation down to Jekyll Island. Can't wait, it has been way too long. Marybeth will love it! This time though I really ought to take photos of her!
